First let me start off by saying that I have read most of the other Nvidia issues and mine seems to be unique to this computer, as my other one plays great.

Specs.
Processor: AMD athlon 1250 Hz
Motherboard: Asus
GPU: Nvidia FX 5700 128 ram
Driver: 61.77
512 Mb Ram
OS: XP professional

Nvidia image quality set to High quality

Now here is a couple screen shots
Screen1
Screen2

I've tried as many things as I can think of including playing with refresh rates, new/older drivers, quality settings.

Anyone have anyother ideas.

Couple questions,

1) Does this happen when you immediately start the game, or after you have played it for a while (ex 10 min, 15 min 30 min)? If so and you restart does it do the same thing after similar time frames ?

2) Have you been playing the game for a while with no problems and did this just start happening recently ? Or did you just get the game and have this problem from the start.

3) Have you done any windows updates lately, the reason I ask is their is a thread here about people having problems after they did the latest windows update. I'm just trying to rule that in/out.

1) actually as soon as you start the game you see it in the login screen. and it seems to cycle, it will go from bad to worse to perfect to bad again...

2) this problem only happens on this computer. I just put this computer together and thought that downloading the client would be the perfect way to test it.

3) no up dates yet, brand spanking new windows install

Thanks

You say no updates for windows, how about the nvidia drivers and direct x 9.0c. Have you updated those ?

Also, do you have any problems playing other games, or is it specific to Guild Wars ?

I am not that familiar with the 5700, does it require a direct power supply connection ? If so it is best to have a direct line with nothing else plugged into it besides the card.

Well what I mean by no updates is that I have not run Windows update on this computer. I have however, updated directx to 9.0c.

I have not had any problems with other programs, but I guess I could try a few more, more graphically intense programs.

Nah, the 5700 doesn't require a direct power supply.

I have tried several different Nvidia drivers including the newest, the oldest, and a couple around V 61.77, as I heard that, it might solve some problems.

Thanks,

Kalith

Are you sure about the 5700 not needing/having a molex connector on it. I ask because I had the 5700ultra and it required the power supply be connected, unless you have the 5700LE flavor. Out of curiosity, is your video card overclocked at all? If so, you may want to try setting it back to its defaults. Have you tried a different monitor to see if that may be the problem?

I would 1st upgrade to the 77.77 drivers - http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_77.77.html

or downgrade the drivers to the 56.72
http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_56.72.html

Reason being I've found texture corruption problems with Final Fantasy XI (designed for Nvidia - Meant to be played logo) with the entire 6x driver series.

My evga FX5700 ultra also requires power molex from the power supply plugged in. I would set the image qualty back to default.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it doesnt need any additional power, The card doesn't have anywhere to plug anything in. There are no plugs on the inside. Except for the Two monitor plugs, and an S-video line, on the out side.

There is no oerclocking currently on it.

I've tried the 77.77 drivers so I'll take a look at the 56.72

Perhaps there's a conflict with the motherboard and the video card that can't be solved?

If your going to downgrade your driver, I would run a driver cleaner program to remove any traces of the newer driver such as driver cleaner pro - http://www.drivercleaner.net/ (Freeware) before you install the 56.72.

Maybe check to see if you have a newer bios for your motherboard?

um, might i ask, since your machine has a 900 chip..what is the power suply rated at?

asking because a beefy card like that needs at least a 400 watt PSU....if your on a 250, a 300 or even a 350, you might be not giving it enough power.

when i went from a 800 duron to a 1700 athlon and a 128 meg GeForce4Ti card, i HAD to upgrade to a 400+ PSU suply...im still using the 410 thermaltake purepower i got back then, so it might be worth checking....never know.

You may want to check to see if your having a heat issue on the card itself. I was having problems playing GW with some artifacting/freezing/rebooting and it was very frustrating because it would only happen while playing guild wars, every other game I had played fine. I tried omega drivers, catalyst drivers, even different versions and still the same problem persisted.

I then opened up the side of my case and with just the overhead room fan on, all the problems went away and I was able to play for hours on end. I have since added a new cooler (artic cooling VGA silencer) to the card and added another case fan and its been smooth sailing ever since.

Talking Thanks

Thanks for the help everone.

This problem is more of a curiosity now. I'm still playing the game on my newer computer with no problems.

Anyway, The case for the computer is open (Since I have not actually finished putting the case together)

It may be a power issue, hmm, never thought of that, THe PSU currently in it is a 300 watt, (Up from 90 ) which I had in there temporarily, since my other source died.

Hmmm, I'll have to try a driver cleaner program.

Thanks alot, I'll keep trying things.

Little more info:
Swapped out the FX 5700 for an ancient Radeon card and the game worked fine, a little slow maybe, but still fine!

So that means that it must be the 5700,

I'm going to scrounge up a Geforce two that I have hidden somewhere and see if that has any problems
